We are  committed to the ancient practice of Ashtanga yoga but are also willing to be innovators providing the creative perspective of vinyasa flow classes.  The approaches
of our various teachers complement each other and build upon the knowledge that we share.  As a group, we do best when we represent not just one particular lineage but rather a whole like a mandala where we each have a piece to contribute.

Whether you attend Ashtanga or vinyasa flow classes at Home-Simply Yoga, you can expect to be taught the combined use of postures, breath, and looking points (dristhi) to first purify the body and then calm the mind.  We have used this proven system with students who are young, old, large, small, fit, injured, flexible and stiff with successful results.  With classes being taught on a donation basis, every one can now experience the true magic of yoga.

Come join our growing community and enjoy the many benefits of a strong body, calm mind, and resilient spirit.    We are a cooperative, dependent on the mutual commitment and satisfaction of student, teacher, and studio alike.   To find out more about our classes, workshops, teacher training or work exchange program please send an email to:  info@homesimplyyoga.com.

Our “green”studio, the first in Los Angeles, is located at 1547 6th Street (just north of 6th and Colorado) in Santa Monica, California.  Follow the path to the right of the building into the garden area that provides our students with an oasis in the middle of the city.  The entrance is directly across from the stone fountain.

Each year we invite some of the most experienced yoga teachers in the world to come to Los Angeles and teach classes and workshops at Home-Simply Yoga.  Regular visitors include our teachers
Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty who return to Los Angeles to share their knowledge of Ashtanga yoga with both old and new students. Your on going support by donation or purchase of class packages will make it possible for us to once again host such  exceptional yoga teachers in Los Angeles in 2009.  Past guest Ashtanga yoga teachers include six who have received advanced teaching certification from PattabhiJois as well as six others who have received his authorization.  All of our guest Ashtanga yoga teachers have been teaching for many years and visit so they can share their experiences with our students.  Recent visitors include Prem Carlisi, Heather Duplex, and Melanie Fawer.

Choices  by Gary Margolin

The choices we make in our everyday life will ultimately determine the health of our environment.  A healthy environment nurtures and supports all who dwell within it.  As an individual, it is easy to feel overwhelmed, powerless, and skeptical that the efforts of any one person will impact the world’s environment at all.  What cannot be denied is that the greater the number of people who resonate with an idea, the greater the actual manifestation.   (read complete article originally published in LA Yoga Magazine)

T
he teaching at Home-Simply Yoga is based upon the lineage of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga.  The ability to trace the roots or lineage of teaching is important because the perspectives of generations of teachers cause subtle changes in the experience of the practice.  By recognizing and honoring the roots and lineage of our teaching we reduce the risk of losing the essence of yoga along the way...(read more)

OUR PHILOSOPHY

What people say about Home-Simply Yoga

YOGA BY DONATION

We are frequently asked why we changed many of our classes to a donation basis and if there is a suggested minimum amount.  The act of selfless giving is an important part of the traditions of self exploration such as yoga, meditation, and spiritual studies.  Knowing that we are making a conscious choice to give something that is ours to someone else helps us grow as people...(read more)

TEACHER TRAINING

Our approach to teacher training is simple.  We believe that learning to teach is another aspect of your practice.  You develop your knowledge over time through individual relationships with teachers and your own personal practice. Whether you want to teach Ashtanga, vinyasa, or any other type classes, it is important to know the basics, which to us is the Ashtanga system.  Just as all great musicians must begin by playing scales, we believe you must have a thorough  understanding of the depth and discipline of Ashtanga yoga to become a complete teacher.  Our commitment is to honestly share all the information and knowledge we have in the tradition of all the great teachers who generously shared their knowledge with us...(read more)

Many recent studies have shown drinks stored in plastic containers, including  clear Nalgene water bottles can contain trace amount of Bisphenol A (BPA), a synthetic chemical that interferes with the body’s natural hormonal messaging system.  The same s
tudies also found that repeated re-use of such bottles increases the chance that chemicals will leak out of the tiny cracks and crevices that develop over time.  BPA has been linked to breast and uterine cancer, an increased risk of miscarriage, decreased testosterone levels, and can wreak havoc on children’s developing systems. Bottles made of different types of plastic may also leach several other types of probable human carcinogen.

Safer choices do exist including stainless steel bottles for water and other liquids.  These bottles can be reused repeatedly and eventually recycled.  As a reminder of our commitment to the environment and your health, Home-Simply Yoga has commissioned special stainless steel bottles with our logo.  They can be purchased in the studio or through our on line boutique.  Join as as a Warrior for the Planet by using one to carry your water.

HEALTHY LIVING

K. Pattabhi Jois passed away early in the morning on May 18.  He tirelessly taught the Ashtanga vinyasa system for over 70 years and is responsible for its practice around the world.  Our thoughts are with his family at this time.  Let us  celebrate his life through the continued practice of Ashtanga yoga.
