1. Where are you located and where can I park?
We are located just off the corner of Colorado Blvd. and 6th Street in Santa Monica. Our address is 1547 6th Street, Garden Suite, Santa Monica, CA 90401.
Free 2-hr. parking is available along both sides of 6th Street and 7th Street. First three hours of parking at Structure 7 (4th and Broadway) are also free until 5 pm ($3 flat rate after 5 pm).
Metered parking is available on Colorado Blvd., Broadway and north of Broadway on 6th Street. Parking is also available at the Santa Monica Public Library (7th Street and Santa Monica Blvd.) for $.50/30 minutes.
If you are here for a workshop and need parking for longer than 2 hours, we encourage you to park either in Structure 7 or the Santa Monica Public Library.
2. What if I am experiencing financial hardship?
Home-Simply Yoga’s mission is to make the teachings of yoga accessible to everyone, thus fees for many of our classes are on a donation basis. We will do our best to see that no one is prevented from attending yoga classes for lack of funds. However, due to the extended time commitment of teachers and high degree of individual attention given to students in our Mysore style Ashtanga classes, a minimum donation is required. Some special events, courses, workshops, and teacher training are also an exception to our donation based commitment. Students who cannot afford the minimum donation required for a particular class or program may be able to participate in our in our flexible work exchange program. 3. What should I wear?
Comfortable exercise clothes such as a t-shirt or tank top and shorts, light sweatpants or tights are appropriate. Try not to wear anything too baggy. Changing rooms are available for students to change into their yoga clothes.
4. What should I bring?
You need only your yoga mat and a small hand towel if you sweat.
5. I am new to the studio. What should I expect?
Please allow yourself sufficient time to find parking and walk to the studio. Turn off your cell phone and take of your shoes before entering the studio. You will be asked to fill out a waiver form and also sign-in to the class. You are welcome to enter the practice room when it is open to set up your mat and settle in before class begins.
6. Which classes are most appropriate for a beginner?
Beginners are encouraged to attend one of our Beginner’s Courses to gain familiarity with the basic postures safely. As you begin to feel comfortable in the classes try our Level 1/2, Level 2, or all levels classes. We recommend about 1 month of prior yoga practice before attending a Mysore style Ashtanga class.
7. What can I expect for my first yoga class?
Please introduce yourself to the teacher when you arrive at the studio and let him or her know that this is your first yoga class. Also let him or her know if you have any injuries or illnesses. Allow yourself a few minutes to set up your mat and settle down before class begins.
8. Do I need to be flexible to practice yoga?
No! You need not be flexible to practice yoga. However, yoga will indeed help you regain your flexibility. If you commit to a consistent practice, you will begin see large improvements in your flexibility rapidly. Many excellent yogis begin yoga not being able to touch their toes!
9. I have injuries. Can I still practice yoga?
Yes. Yoga is a safe practice with which you can begin to rehabilitate injuries. Our teachers are well-trained in anatomy and will provide appropriate modifications to poses for you. Yoga is a complete form of exercise which also helps to build smaller, minor muscles so that your musculature becomes more balanced. This will help you prevent future injuries. If you do have an injury, please remember to let your teacher know prior to class of your limitation.
10. How often should I practice?
You will begin to experience benefits even if you practice only once a week. If you practice 2 to 3 times a week, you will experience even greater benefits. The most important thing is to try and come when you can so that yoga will gradually become a part of your regular routine.
11. Can I reserve a spot before coming to class? What is the cancellation policy?
Reservations are not required for our classes. However, you are welcome to reserve a spot and pay for your class prior to coming to the studio. This can be done by going to our online schedule and clicking on “Sign Up Now!” We will not charge you if you reserve a spot and are unable to make it to class but appreciate it if you can cancel your reservation ahead of time.
12. What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all forms of payment including cash, personal check and credit card.
13. Do I need to bring my own mat?
We don’t rent mats. We have a few demo mats for you to try while deciding on one to purchase for your own.
