Beginners Ashtanga

Beginners Ashtanga classes are designed to provide both those new to yoga and those new to Ashtanga yoga with an introduction to the Ashtanga system and focus on the development of a self practice. In these classes, the student will learn the order of the sequence of postures by heart and how to link them with the Ashtanga yoga breathing technique. Classes are designed to get students in the habit of practicing yoga by providing an initial introduction to the method, philosophy and practice of Ashtanga yoga.

Mysore Ashtanga Classes

These classes are taught in the method used by Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India.  In these classes, students practice a set sequence of postures that has been taught to them individually, rather than being led through the practice as a group.  The teacher is free to assist, adjust, and teach new postures to individual students as needed.  By teaching individual students, instead of classes as a group, teachers gain an understanding of each individual’s needs and abilities.  This enables them to provide a physical practice that is appropriately challenging while still maintaining its therapeutic benefits.  Please note that Mysore style classes are not held on the New and Full Moon Days.

Led Ashtanga Classes

In led Ashtanga classes, students are taken through all or a part of the Ashtanga primary series as a group, including sun salutations, standing postures, some seated postures, and finishing postures. Variations for postures are also taught so that students can gradually cultivate correct alignment in a meditative, flowing practice in order to safely prepare for more difficult postures.

Shadow Yoga

Shadow Yoga, founded by Zhander Remete, is a Hatha Yoga system designed to integrate
the common principles of yoga asana, martial arts, South Indian dance and Ayurvedic medicine.  The starting point consists of 3 standing prelude forms, all devised to prepare the body for asana-vinyasa.  The full practice format consists of prelude forms, asanas, inversions, bandhas, kriyas, mudras, pranayama and pratyahara. This class will focus on the basic yogic principles, focal points, postures and techniques which stand at the heart of this unique Hatha Yoga practice.

Level 1 Classes

These classes are appropriate for students of all ages, shapes, and fitness levels. They are designed to help beginning students experience the many benefits of yoga in a safe manner while learning the basics of yoga. No experience or flexibility is required. Props will be used along with appropriate modifications to insure appropriate challenges while maintaining the therapeutic benefits.
