Ally was born and raised in England. She became interested in the practice of Ashtanga when a local Ashtanga teacher in England first introduced her to it in 2000. Since then she has practiced a traditional form under the guidance of acclaimed Ashtanga Teachers Hamish Hendry, John Scott, Dena Kingsberg, and Paul Dallaghan, She currently is continuing her Ashtanga studies under the guidance of Melissa and Gary Margolin. Before yoga, she trained professionally as a Contemporary dancer at one of the leading dance schools (Laban) in the UK. This technical training has given her vast knowledge of movement analysis and anatomy. She has taken this knowledge and applied it to her practice and teaching, which her students find especially helpful.
Ally believes that Ashtanga Yoga can be for all ages and body types, which is why she adapts the practice to her students levels of experience, enabling them to get the most out of each practice. Through her years of practicing and teaching with so many different teachers, she believes that Ashtanga Yoga should be practiced with a sense of humor. Yoga can be too serious which can make the practice seem fearful, when really it is here to support us and to give us lightness throughout our journey.
Ally has been lucky enough to have taught around the world in such places as London (England), Sydney (Australia) and Los Angeles (USA) and Thailand. “I believe that one of the most wonderful & precious elements of the Ashtanga self-practice is that it will always be with you wherever you are in the world reflecting the pathway of your journey throughout life.
